How to effortlessly incorporate wood into our kitchen decor

My dream has always been to live in a cabin in the mountains, where the air is fresh, and I can reconnect with everything around me. The cabin would be a small one, made of wood, with rustic kitchen decor, a fireplace crackling constantly, and an atmosphere that is endlessly cosy. So far, I haven’t been able to find myself living in such a dream place, but that doesn’t mean I’m giving up. You never know… maybe someday. 🀞

Meanwhile, I thought that for the beginning of 2025, I would switch up my kitchen decor a little. I can’t decorate my lovely cabin just yet, but I can certainly incorporate the idea of wood into my design. I’ll be trying a stylish mix of rustic and modern decor, which I think is pretty amazing. You know what the best thing is? It’s extremely uncomplicated … the presence of wood is outstanding no matter what the existing colours or accents are.

Besides, it will make my kitchen more welcoming and add a bit of a β€œmum” feeling πŸ’—. And for me, that’s the best feeling in the world. By the way, my mum’s kitchen will be my main source of inspiration. πŸ‘©πŸ’— Let’s get started!

  • A Favourite Place To Eat

For me, my kitchen space is my favourite place to have meals with my family. It feels so intimate and familiar. I think my best childhood memories come from sitting at the kitchen table, eating delicious food and laughing while sharing all kinds of stories. I used to do that with my family or my best friend. It was truly a one-of-a-kind period in my life, which can never be erased or overwritten. πŸ™‚

So, having a table and a couple of chairs in my kitchen is essential. I can’t even picture a decor without these puzzle pieces. It might be obvious by now, but a cute wooden table and matching seating areas are one of the most impactful ways to incorporate wood into our room. They are a considerable-sized piece of furniture and sometimes even the centrepiece of our design.

Depending on how much space we have, we can opt for a round, adorable table with four dining chairs, or we could even consider a rectangular one with bench seating options, decorated with all kinds of soft, plush cushions. I see it as the heart of our home … a place where meals are shared, stories are told, and memories are made. For me, it’s the kind of space where life’s little moments truly shine. πŸ™‚

  • Give The Walls A Rustic Feel

Another magical way to bring a rustic sprinkle into our kitchen is to decorate the walls just a tiny bit. I would adore a painting on an accent wall that incorporates all those woody colours. I’m guessing the best pattern would be a flowery design or perhaps something kitchen themed. As long as we choose a wooden frame and incorporate various shades of brown, we’re still in line with the rustic aesthetic. The art would add a personal touch while maintaining the natural, earthy vibe of the space. It’s the perfect way to blend rustic charm with creative expression in the kitchen. 😊

Or we could opt for a wood tile accent wall. It’s such a simple project that we could do it ourselves in a couple of hours. Those self-adhesive tiles are incredibly convenient, easy to maintain, and extremely affordable. However, the accent wall might look a bit out of place if it’s not complemented by other wooden elements in the room. I think the idea of pairing it with a wood table and perhaps a wooden floor, like a parquet design, would create a more balanced and cohesive look. It’s all about creating a space where the materials complement each other and enhance the overall feel of the room. What do you think? Do you agree? πŸ€”

  • Add Small Wooden Decorations

The little touches in my kitchen decor are some of my absolute favourites. Every single corner of the room becomes so personal, and I can easily identify myself with every carefully chosen piece. To subtly introduce the “wood theme” into our kitchen, we can simply add decorative bits. This way, our space will not be overwhelmed, but just lightly sprinkled with a rustic β€œdust”.

I am thinking of placing wooden trays on our counter tops or dining table. On these cute trays, we could add a small wooden house or wooden candle holders. There are so many things to choose from. For example, I like to keep my salt and pepper on the table at all times (somehow, I never use enough in my cooking πŸ˜…). So, tiny wooden salt and pepper grinders would be one of my top picks. Alternatively, we could add wooden vases with our favourite flowers.

Anything that makes sense for us would be the right choice. It will be the kind of place where we can enjoy quiet moments together, sharing a laugh over breakfast or unwinding with a cup of tea at the end of the day. Every element would be a little reminder of us, creating a space where love and warmth are always in the air. 😊

  • Be Creative With The Lighting

Even before considering this wood pattern for my kitchen design, I adored those large, woven round ceiling lamps. They look so appropriate for a cosy and intimate room. Depending on the size of our kitchen, we could have two or more, ensuring they properly illuminate the space while stylishly fitting into our decor. The best part is that they are durable, inexpensive, and quite easy to maintain. For a more modern twist, under-cabinet lighting can highlight the wood elements and provide practical illumination for cooking tasks.

Now, since we are embracing a wood-themed kitchen, we can easily implement more lighting sources. I don’t know about you, but I love to have every corner of my space illuminated. 😌 Plus, you never know what kind of mood we might be in. Perhaps one night, we will feel like having a romantic dinner date as a surprise for our loved one. For this, we definitely need candles. Therefore, what better way than to have those beautiful woven lantern candle holders? We can play with sizes and shapes and even opt for battery-operated candles. I’ve never liked playing with fire. πŸ˜„πŸ€

Altogether, these creative lighting ideas can turn our kitchen into a cosy, well-lit haven, perfect for setting the mood, whether it’s for a casual meal or a romantic evening together. πŸ™‚

  • Switch Up Your Kitchen Utensils

When I was a little girl, I used to spend my holidays at my grandparents’ and eat the most amazing, cooked meals. πŸ˜‹ I remember my grandmother had all these wooden utensils in her small kitchen, and they still looked like new after years of use. So, I guess my first point is that switching to wooden ones is a very practical choice; they will last with us for a very long time. Besides, they are the safest to use with our pots and pans. I, for example, can’t cope with the scratches on them, it makes me want to buy new ones in seconds. Or maybe I’m just a shopping addict (we’ll never know πŸ€πŸ˜…).

This is one of the most practical options to add wood to our kitchen decor. We can invest in wooden utensil holders as well and find a nice spot to put them on display. I adore having multiple cutting boards. During summer, I even serve rainbows of fresh vegetables on them for lunch or use a big wooden salad bowl to mix delicious green leaves. It also reminds me of my childhood and the worry-free years spent at my grandparents’. But coming back to our more modern times, I suggest woven coasters as well. Our furniture needs to be protected nowadays. Otherwise, all our efforts will be spoiled in seconds. 😢 Right? πŸ‘€

  • Opt For Sturdy Wood Cabinets

As I have said before, the most fabulous part is that wood goes with every colour we may think of. We can have a two-tone kitchen or a three-tone one and still add this natural material to our design. It will make everything seem more earthy and warm, not glossy and shiny like those kitchens we see in the movies. I mean… nothing wrong with that, but they look like nobody ever cooks in them. πŸ™„ Plus, they give off a sense of solitude and inaccessibility. Definitely… not to my taste.

I’m a simpler person at heart. I cherish small, welcoming spaces where I can feel love, gratitude, and humility all at once. I never want to lose touch with these feelings, as they motivate me to be better each and every minute. Life is incredibly precious and kind to us, if only we know where to look. πŸ™‚πŸ€Ž

Therefore, I prefer an adorable little kitchen where I can play with the decor once in a while… you know, just to avoid reaching the plateau stage. I totally recommend choosing wood cabinets and even wood counter tops. They are durable, as I said before, but they can also be easily painted. We can mix colours, maybe black and natural wood tones, or whatever we’re drawn to at the moment. I, for one, have a passion for a different colour each year. πŸ˜… The great thing is that we can easily paint the cabinets nowadays, with spray paint, and finish it all in a couple of hours. All we need is… us. πŸ€—

Happy decorating!
