I don’t know about others, but I am the kind of person who is deeply impacted by the colours around me. Different tones awaken different emotions in me and transport my imagination to distinctive moments in my life. So, I always make sure to surround myself with what my mind perceives as positive, joyful, and soothing. What could be more peaceful and dreamy than decorating a cute and affordable pastel coloured bedroom? 🌸
These warm hues instantly relax my senses, putting me in a state of total tranquillity and comfort. They are not overpowering; instead, they emanate a constant sweetness and romanticise every second of my day. For me, there’s no better way to instil feelings of freshness and serenity in my busy rhythm than to live in a pastel-coloured little world. 🌷🏡
Besides, there is such freedom in this type of bedroom decor. We can play with so many combinations, without being afraid of messing up. The only challenge for me is making it as low-budget as possible. But I think I’ve managed to do that quite well. Let’s take a look at some adorable ideas I have! 😊
Start with a happy bedding theme

If we are unsure where to start, it’s always a good idea to go shopping for our bedding. If you’re anything like me, you feel like buying a new one every other week. For our pastel-coloured bedroom, we want to choose patterns that make us smile. Cute floral ones are some of my favourites, but I am always indecisive about which colours to pick. So, I end up picking them all. 🤭 I adore every mix, from pastel blue and pastel yellow to pastel purples and pastel pinks. 🦄 Especially if we are in the spring or summer season, I feel like I am aligned with the nature that is fully blossomed outside my home.🌷
Of course, we can opt for simple coloured bedding, without any patterns. Plus, our bed needs to be adorned with colourful throws and cushions as well. There’s an entire atmosphere that needs to be created in this bedroom decor. To keep it simple, just think of our bed as a sunny picnic in the park surrounded by pastel spring flowers. Then you will know exactly how it’s done. 🙃
Playful rugs and curtains

I’ve always thought of the rugs and curtains in my home as the outerwear we have in our closet for each season. We need to match the outerwear to our outfits to create a seamless visual experience. Undoubtedly, we need to do the same with our interior design. So, if we’re aiming for an affordable pastel-coloured bedroom, we’ll go for playful and colourful rugs and curtains. On a low budget, very important! However, we don’t necessarily need to match these two. We just need to keep them within our bedroom theme. 🌸
Instead of opting for a plain coloured rug, I prefer to introduce a floral theme here as well. Nothing too overwhelming, just some flowers evenly spread and textured in pastel colours, maybe just one or a combination of multiple soothing ones. 🙂 I swear, every time I decorate using this approach, I feel like Alice in Wonderland, living in a surreal place. It just gives me the most positive vibes. This is what our space is supposed to be … a refuge from all the craziness in the outside world (which is getting frightening, I might add 👀).
As for the curtains, I prefer a simple, plain colour. A pastel shade or a subtle neutral one are both excellent choices. Personally, I usually go for white sheer curtains with a pair of thermal ones layered over them. You know … to block the light when I feel like disappearing for a day or two. I’m sure we all have those moments. They say it’s actually healthy to allow ourselves to experience them. Hence … two layers of curtains. 😅
Pastel coloured furniture pieces

For those of us who like to be a bit more daring, furniture is a wonderful way to bring in colour. Just imagining pastel-toned pieces takes me right back to my childhood dollhouse .🦄 It feels like stepping into a fairy tale. I know I’d definitely choose this!
We can start by choosing a colour we love for our bed. Perhaps a soft pastel blue or pink, depending on our style and personal favourites. The material doesn’t matter too much … whether it’s a leather bed or a velvet one, both are incredibly easy to clean and maintain. After all, we always want our bedroom to look spotless and sparkling! 😊 ✨
Or we can bring in colour with an adorable armchair, creating a dreamy reading nook where we can lose ourselves in the magical world of books. We can match the armchair with a lovely ottoman or go bold and mix and match to our heart’s content. Remember, anything that makes us happy is absolutely acceptable! 😍 Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise! 😉
Accentuate the walls

If we want to achieve a warm and inviting ambience in our bedroom decor, I strongly suggest going for pastel-coloured walls. A bit of paint can truly transform the atmosphere and even transport us to the warmest, most divine holiday island. At least, that’s the effect it has on me. 😅
What I love to do is paint an accent wall, usually in a shade that matches most of my accessories, and the result is always better than I imagined. The moment I see it, serotonin just starts flowing through my brain. I have no other way to explain it! 🙃
Or we could liven up our walls by adorning them with pastel-coloured paintings. These could be landscapes, unique portraits, or even abstract art … anything that complements our bedroom decor like the ultimate missing puzzle piece. Once we find the right one, everything seamlessly falls into place.
Accessories in pastel hues

Well… this is the most fun part of creating our affordable pastel-coloured bedroom … the moment we add our personal touch and truly call it home. It’s said that the way we decorate with accessories offers a subtle glimpse into our personality. If that’s the case, mine is sprinkled with rainbows and marshmallows! I say that because I would absolutely choose colourful lamps for my bedside tables. And I wouldn’t stop there.😋 I’d adorn my space with scented candles and pastel-coloured lilies in adorable ceramic vases. I mentioned lilies because they’re my favourite flowers, but of course, we can choose whatever is closest to our heart. 🤗
Other accessories we could incorporate to create a fresh and happy bedroom are decorative colourful books. Plus, we can use them as hidden storage boxes as well. Perfect for keeping our little things out of sight … whether it’s some beloved jewellery or a secret stash of M&Ms (hopefully, it’s not just me! 😅). What would you keep hidden? 🤫
Implement gold touches

I’ve found that adding gold touches to a pastel-toned decor makes it even more welcoming and cosy. The way they blend together is simply effortless. We could incorporate a tall standing mirror with a simple gold frame. ✨ This way we combine practicality with a dash of sophistication. One simple detail like this can make an enormous impact, and we wouldn’t need anything else. But we can go further and add a sprinkle of gold to our bedside lamps or decorative accessories. I especially love those small gold figurines in human shapes … they give off such a posh vibe! 😌
If we want to add even more elegance to our design, I’d suggest opting for bedside tables with gold finishing details. They could have gold legs or gold drawer knobs, adding a subtle yet classy touch. I know they can be a bit on the expensive side, so a little DIY could do the trick. We can simply replace the original knobs with some shiny new gold ones. It’s a small change, but trust me, it’s worth the effort! 🙂
Play with warm lighting

Recently, I’ve discovered some new spots in my bedroom where warm lighting can be truly magical. I love adding warm white strip LED lights around my bed frame. It feels like being lifted by an ethereal aura while relaxing in my safe space. The energy it gives me is truly ineffable. I feel protected from all the exterior noise, which is exactly what I want to experience within the walls of my home.
But that’s not all. I highly recommend using warm white light wherever we have floating shelves. It looks classy and adds an immediate warmth to all the decorations we have. Plus, it’s like a soulmate for our pastel coloured aesthetic. Another great way to use warm lighting is to frame our mirror and light it up when we want the atmosphere to feel more romantic than ever. And of course, we can’t forget bedside lamps. They’re already a must in any type of decor, right? 😊 ✨
Colourful storage space

This last suggestion is for those of us who truly want to take the design game to the next level. If we want our affordable pastel-coloured bedroom to really pop, let’s go for colourful storage boxes. You know, those cute units with varying numbers of drawers. Anywhere from two to however many we need. We can even buy the colourful boxes individually, so we can mix and match to our heart’s desire. Not to mention how unbelievably practical they are. 🙃 They’re incredibly spacious and help us keep our room tidy and uncluttered at all times.
Or we can invest in pastel-coloured bedside tables to really liven up our room. If we can’t find the exact tones we’re looking for or feel they’re a bit pricey, I’ve got another DIY idea for us. But don’t worry. 😊 Nowadays, we can spray paint our furniture following any pattern we have in mind. It’s super easy, super affordable, and not messy at all. What do you think? Would you take on a project like that? 😋
