We are fast approaching summer, and I cannot stop thinking about the rainbow of fruit colours that will fill my kitchen. I am absolutely in love with this time of year. The popping hues, the refreshing scents, and the most delicious tastes awaken my senses in an inexplicable way.🙃 I feel more joyful, younger, and with so much more energy. And I am absolutely sure I am not the only one feeling this way.
It’s the season to celebrate happiness and embrace the joy of life in every moment. The sun is shining, the air is warm and calm, and the birds are serenading us with their adorable ballads. For me, this is the essence of simplicity. Pure joy and a deep sense of gratitude for everything around us.🙏 I want to bring that feeling into my kitchen, too. I’m eager to recreate that beautiful outdoor ambiance right here in my sweet home. And I’ve got some adorable ideas for a summer kitchen on a budget. Let’s romanticise our home decor together this year. 🙂
Popping Colours

This option is the most important one. If we think about it, summer is all about colours. The never-ending blue skies, the most immaculate greens, and rainbow flowers we never knew existed.🩵💚🩷 So, first, I’d say let’s bring this magical landscape into our kitchen. We can easily do that by swapping our curtains for some white sheer ones. Their light, transparent material will allow us to enjoy all the beauty outside our walls. Honestly, it’s a shame not to do it. It’s free, and it’s nature’s gift to each and every one of us.
Secondly, we need to refresh our kitchen furniture. We can bring a pop of colour with some simple DIY creative work. Why not paint our old chairs in a tone we really love? We could add colourful cushions that beautifully contrast with the chairs. You know … all those perfect summer colour combinations. The best part is, we literally have endless choices to choose from! 🙂
Besides, there’s no wrong hue in this case. We could even paint our kitchen cabinets, countertops or an accent wall. I remember my mum used to have a summer kitchen when I was little. Every year, she would repaint all the furniture, and I was always so excited to see how it would look each time. Those little things made me so happy, and they still do. Whenever I close my eyes, I relive those moments in their purest form. I’ll always have them.😇 What colours would you choose for your kitchen this summer? 🥰
Natural Materials

We always hear the phrase “bring nature indoors”. It often means filling our homes with flowers and greenery, but it holds another meaning too. When decorating our summer kitchen on a budget, this is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to do it. We can capture that soothing, calming sense of nature by simply adding wooden elements. A lovely wooden tray filled with colourful summer fruits, ready to be devoured. 🍇 Or a woven basket brimming with hand-picked apples from a local farm. These little touches take us back to our roots … to simpler, more meaningful times. 🙂
Personally, it would transport me straight to my childhood at my grandparents’ home. And these are just a few suggestions. We can play with so many natural materials. I’m thinking woven chandeliers, a rustic wooden kitchen table. Or even a tray adorned with seashells to create a charming mix of seaside and country living. I can guarantee, hand on heart, that the emotions these additions will stir in us will be ones of pure serenity and peace.🤍 And honestly … what better way to spend our summer? ✨
Summer Aromas and Flavours

What is summer all about? It’s the madness of delicious fruit flavours, the irresistible scent of freshly cut watermelon. For me, that’s the very first thing that comes to mind. I feel as though all my senses are completely fulfilled by this blooming season. It’s a realm of colours, aromas, and mouth-watering tastes … the earth at its very peak. ⭐
Obviously, our summer kitchen on a budget can simply be just this … a sensory experience that wraps us in the highest emotions. If we want our space to smell like summer, we can easily add scented candles in our favourite aromas. Personally, the scent of strawberries and raspberries awakens all the memories of my childhood summer holidays. I used to hand-pick them at my grandpa’s house and eat them in a rush, breathlessly. I just couldn’t get enough of their sweetness. 🤭😋
Or we can go for the one I think already exists in every true summer home. Loads and loads of fruits in woven baskets, colourful fruit salads in crystal bowls, and freshly cut, zesty slices laid out on chopping boards. Just imagine all the colours, all the flavours, and all the scents filling the room. An irresistible amalgamation of the most refreshing, mouth-watering, and joyful experiences summer has to offer. 🍉🍓🥝🍈🥭🍍🍇
Colourful and Bright Decor

If we choose this option, we can simply swap out our spring decor for something a little more summery. And with every season, we get to pick the colours, fabrics, and textures to match the mood. Why not start with the floor of our kitchen? Nothing says “summer is here” quite like a boho, colourful rug. Just this simple addition will instantly transform the aesthetic of the room. The atmosphere will feel brighter, livelier, and so much more inviting. Besides, I absolutely love walking barefoot in my kitchen on hot summer days. A glass of Pepsi Max with lime and sparkling ice in hand… and just like that, the sun-kissed vibe is set.🥤
Our windows deserve the same kind of treatment, don’t they? We can add some colourful sheer curtains to complete that seasonal energy. I absolutely adore the idea of hot sunshine streaming through the light fabric, illuminating both my space and my mind at the same time. Because you know what they say … the sun is one of the world’s most accessible healers. ⭐ ✨
One decor item I could never go without is artwork. In fact, it’s a must in every room of my home. Nothing else can quite replace the warmth and character a beautiful piece of art brings, no matter the theme or style. For my summer kitchen, I’d love to dress the walls with something lively and joyful.🐦 A painting that radiates life, happiness, and pure love. And for me, nothing captures those feelings better than nature itself. A scene of lush grass, open skies, and golden sunshine would be the perfect reminder of how simple the things we truly need are … yet how incredibly beautiful they can be. 🙂
Lighting for Ambiance

During summer, I absolutely love to bathe myself in natural light. That’s exactly why I suggested choosing sheer curtains. We need to let the power of the sun flood our kitchen. Not only will it save us a good deal of energy, but it also sprinkles positivity all around us. I don’t know about others, but I, for one, can’t stay upset when the sun’s shining. It just feels like everything has a solution, and worrying becomes the last thing on my mind. For me, natural light and sunshine are some of the best remedies. They heal those tiny, hidden cracks inside me I didn’t even realise were there. And once they’re mended, I feel lighter. I feel new. 🙂
Of course, once the sun goes down, we’ll need a bit of artificial lighting to keep the atmosphere cosy. I’d suggest sticking to warm white light to stay in that same serene, warm mood. We could add LED strips beneath our cabinets, or pop a few colourful battery-operated candles here and there. I personally love scattering some fairy lights around to keep that little touch of summer magic glowing into the night.✨ But if all that feels a bit too much, we can always opt for a statement chandelier (maybe in a vibrant colour 😋). And we’ll have all your lighting sorted without over-complicating it.
Cheerful Table Setting

Our summer kitchen can really take shape with something as simple as a cheerful table setting. We can start our mornings with breakfast served on vibrant plates and sip our coffee from cute, colourful mugs. If, like me, you love a glass of fresh, iced orange juice on a warm summer morning, why not pour it from a colourful glass jug? And of course … a couple of matching glasses to go with it. 🥂
We can also add a vibrant kettle to make our afternoon tea even more enjoyable, along with a lovely ceramic vase to keep our favourite summer flowers close by. It’s those little touches that make an enormous difference in how we adapt to the changing seasons. We’ll feel as though we’re moving in harmony with nature, perfectly in tune with its rhythm. And in all sincerity, it’s one of the kindest, simplest things we can do for our peace of mind. 🙂
