How to easily decorate a minimalist chic bedroom

I’m in a place in my life where I crave clean surroundings, clean feelings, and a clean social circle. My mind simply can’t function in clutter anymore. And I am speaking from every possible point of view. 👀 This is most evident in my personal living space. I feel so good when everything is in order and I can breathe in nothing but fresh air. Without even realising it, I’ve slowly transformed my room into a minimalist chic bedroom. And I love it. My brain loves it too. All my thoughts now have space to wander. They no longer collide with one another. 🙂

I mentioned “chic” because, although it’s minimalist, there’s still something softly girly about it. Just a touch. There’s a subtle difference there. Not too little, not too much. A kind of meeting point in the middle. And somehow, I’ve managed to achieve it without even trying. It’s simply how I love to see the world around me. Simple, with just a bit of a pop.🙃 It really is true what they say: we decorate our homes in line with how we feel in life. Our house becomes an extraordinary reflection of ourselves. So, shall we uncover my reflection at the beautiful age of 37? Just in my bedroom, for now. 😅

Stick to Symmetry (but Not Strictly)

In my eyes, the best way to describe a minimalist chic bedroom is with one word: intention. What do I mean by that? Well, we don’t have to follow strict rules or be rigid in our decor. Instead, every item in our room should have a clear purpose for being there. It should feel intentional … visually and emotionally. 🙂

One of the easiest ways to dissolve chaos is through symmetry in our main furniture pieces. For example, two matching bedside tables with two matching lamps on either side of the bed. This creates harmony and a sense of peace in a way that’s aesthetically pleasing.

But when I say we don’t need to be too strict, I’m talking about the way we adorn these pieces. If we want a neat stack of books on one side and perhaps just a vase of fresh flowers on the other, that’s perfectly fine. The only thing to remember is to keep them as uncluttered as possible. The good news is that having two bedside tables also means more hidden storage. All the little things we like to keep close can be neatly tucked away. Creams, jewellery boxes, glasses … Snickers bars. 😅This kind of things.

Multi-Functional Furniture

Personally, I do need quite a few items to function on a day-to-day basis. Especially as a woman, I have my essential accessories that I simply can’t live without. On the other hand, I don’t like seeing them scattered around the house either. A few years ago, I started opting for multi functional furniture. And I think that’s what gradually transformed my once slightly chaotic bedroom into a chic, minimalist one. The central piece, the one I believe holds the greatest importance, is the ottoman bed. I love how much hidden space it offers and how many things I can tuck away with minimal effort. Everything is easy to find, yet just as easy to hide. 😁

Furthermore, I’ve always had a soft spot for those charming end-of-the-bed benches. Especially the kind that opens up so elegantly to reveal yet another clever storage solution. I usually choose one that spans the width of the bed. So I can make the most of its presence. I casually drape a throw over it and it decorates my room in the most stylish way.

What else can we choose for our minimalist chic bedroom? Perhaps a spacious wardrobe with mirrored sliding doors. Or, if we prefer a mirror on its own, I absolutely adore those wall-mounted mirrored storage cabinets. They’re so sleek and modern, and you’d never guess how much space they hide inside. There’s also the freestanding mirror option, which I love for the freedom it gives. We can place it wherever it feels right at the moment. And move it around as often as we like. Personally, I tend to follow the light of the day. It tells me the truth … even if it’s not always the most flattering. 🤭😅

The Femininity of Soft Curves

Let’s be honest, when we say chic, we also say femininity. We mean simple, minimal, yet undeniably classy. The soft curves of furniture pieces instantly make a room feel warmer and full of cosiness. After all, we don’t want a cold bedroom with no hint of personality. 👀 If we have enough space, we could easily incorporate a beautifully rounded, comfortable seating sofa chair. Even a small one in a teddy fleece fabric. It offers pure comfort, a dreamy little corner where we can truly unwind. Not to mention, it adds a striking touch to our minimalist design.

Of course, these soft curves can be introduced through other pieces too. Perhaps in our bedside tables, coffee tables, or even smaller details. Another tip I would recommend is to opt for neutral tones. They give the whole decor a more natural look, as if it was always meant to be that way. Soft curves can also appear in our decorations, accessories, or in the shape of our bed frame and headboard. It’s not something we can learn from a manual. It’s instinct, guided by that quiet sensation of belonging. 🤍

Minimalism doesn’t mean stiff, nor does it mean rigid or cold decor. Quite the opposite, in fact. It’s about discovering the true beauty in the things we so often take for granted. These days, we all seem to carry a sense of entitlement. Yet if we really think about it, it couldn’t be further from the truth. We work hard, only to spend our earnings on material things we believe we need. But in reality, it’s this “selling world” that needs us to believe that. We can live without so many of the objects and accessories we accumulate. 🙂

So minimalism is about embracing empty space and making room for what truly matters. A piece of ourselves that can so easily get lost along the way. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy life’s simple treats. Why is a bedroom so important? It’s where we sleep, where we restore our bodies, our spirits, and our minds. It’s almost like a sanctuary. And if that’s the case, then our bed deserves to be treated as such. 😌

I love ruffled bedding with multiple cushions scattered across it. I adore layers of soft throws, and plush materials that invite me to sink in. In this kind of design, faux fur throws are in their element. Thanks to the simplicity of the decor, these stylish textiles stand out and shine. And all of it is for our comfort and self-love. Something we so deeply deserve. 💆

A Few Statement Decor Pieces

As we’ve talked about before, we don’t want anything too crowded. And that applies to our walls as well. We can choose between a statement mirror or a large piece of artwork. Personally, I prefer a big painting, simply because art always transports me to more dreamy realities. But in the end, it’s all about what you prefer. A soft, curved mirror could just as easily fill one wall. As I’ve said in many of my articles, mirrors play with light in the most magical way. They also create the optical illusion of more space. Besides, they make our room feel airy and open, which is precisely the intended effect of our decor.

If space isn’t an issue in our minimalist chic bedroom, we could even curate a little calm corner. We could add a teddy-fleece armchair paired with a softly curved coffee table and the fluffiest sheepskin rug we can find. Or perhaps a knitted ottoman beside a tall floor lamp. A space to spend lazy afternoons reading a good book or watching our favourite series in perfect peace.

Remember, minimalism is all about reconnecting with the simple pleasures of life and letting go of everything that no longer serves us … in both a literal and figurative way. And always choose neutral, warm colours. Because in this kind of space, simple genuinely means more.

Extra Tips and Tricks

The most useful tip I can give is to integrate natural materials into our bedroom. Earlier, I mentioned the importance of neutral colours. And the same reasoning applies to natural materials. They’re effortless, simple, and … well, natural. 🙂 They take us back to our origins, to a time when all we had was nature at our disposal. Minimalism inspires us to return to those pure emotions we’ve carried since the very beginning of our journey on earth. It encourages us to place true value only on what matters. Our feelings, our state of mind, and the deep-rooted sense of peace within ourselves. 🤍

We can add wood wherever we can. Perhaps an accent wall clad in panelled timber or a sturdy wooden bench draped with a soft sheepskin throw. It almost transports me back to the Flintstones era. 🤭 But it’s true, you know. The element of stone is also deeply rooted in minimalist design. We can bring it in through decorative pieces or even the most ancient-looking vases we can find.

And when I say natural, I also mean incorporating greenery, if we’re fond of it. For this type of decor, the most fitting choice would be a tall green plant in a stone-like pot. It’s almost as if we’re imagining a little corner of nature in some faraway tropical place. 🙃

Another important element is lighting … lots of it, but always warm. Perhaps a LED strip beneath our shelves or furniture. Or lamps that create a soft, fairy-tale glow. Add some flickering candles … oh, we have endless little techniques to help us truly relax. ✨

P.S.

And one more thing … keep the air fresh.🙂 Open the windows, let the outdoors flow in, light a scented candle … and breathe. Breathe deeply, and be grateful. Because right now … we have all we need. 🤍
