How to decorate our garden for a romantic summer date

Summer always feels like a gentle reminder of how connected we are to the nature around us. A bird’s song, the perfume of a blooming rose or the fresh scent of grass after a light rain. Tiny, magical glimpses we so often overlook. In these simple gifts, I find my purest happiness. I feel more alive than ever. And want to make the most of every single moment. When I was a child, those three months of sunny, glorious summer days were my absolute favourite in the whole world. 😻

Well, that hasn’t changed at all. Perhaps just some of the activities I enjoy now as an adult.💖 For example, how much I love a romantic summer date in my little, dreamlike garden. 🙃🌞 I believe in reconnecting with our loved ones. We should have long conversations and lose ourselves in each other’s words. We should kiss more often and celebrate the simplicity of happiness. Just being in each other’s arms on an intoxicating, aromatic summer evening. And sharing a delicious ice cream, with not a care in the world.🍦This is what love in summertime means to me. A fairy tale.

Pick the Perfect Spot

For me, this is the first and most important element. Of course, I’m always the one to initiate a romantic summer date. I adore surprising my boyfriend after a long week of work. After all, we both deserve a little sunshine and the soft, breezy evening air too. My perfect date begins during the day and lingers long into the night. Like two teenagers getting to know each other. All over again. 💖

So, the perfect spot for me would be beneath an old tree with a heavy, sturdy trunk and lustrous green leaves. 🌳 It would be just right to keep the burning sun’s rays at bay while we sip our cold lemonade in peace. On the other side, we could easily drape a sheer canopy curtain over the strong branches. And cuddle in the fresh evening air. Maybe we’d even turn it into an all-nighter. Who knows? 😋

Another enchanting little spot would be by our garden swing. We could fill it with fluffy cushions and soft throws, and simply unwind until there’s nothing left to think about. Only to feel. Love, peace, and the quiet, gentle joy of summer days. Life can be so simple and sweet, don’t you think? 🙃

Bring Out Soft Textiles

It’s a romantic summer date. So we need plenty of cosy touches around us to feel comfortable and sheltered. The setup for our date could be at our little garden table with two comfy rattan chairs. But this isn’t an ordinary lunch or a meal in a hurry. We need to think of every little detail to make this love-filled encounter truly unforgettable. 😊

So why not turn it into a cute picnic? We could bring out all the soft summer throws we have and create a little makeshift summer bed. I imagine colourful, floral cushions scattered all around us. To sleep on, to eat on, to cuddle on … or simply to lie back and savour the infinite beauty of the sky. 👩‍❤‍👨

And if we let the evening slip deep into the night, perhaps with a bottle of our favourite wine … we’d need sheer curtains to enclose our little love corner.🍷We can make it as intimate and special as possible, even in our own garden. Maybe we could even set up a light, airy tent and fall asleep inside it, carried by the night breeze and the garden solar lights.

If we’re lucky enough to have space for a baldachin bed or a sun lounger … honestly, I don’t think we could ask for more. It would feel like bringing holiday vibes right into the heart of our date. A perfect little escape to completely disconnect from the outside world and just lose ourselves in each other. It would remind us how precious it is to simply have one another. Nothing else in the material world matters. How pure, how beautifully raw is that feeling? This is what we deserve. This is what we should seek and hold on to. 🙂🤍

Create a Candle Path

Oh my, not to sound too corny, but this idea feels like one of the most romantic ones. Just imagine prolonging our summer date deep into the night. And lighting an ethereal candlelit path. The warm light, the soft, sweet glow … it would instantly wrap us in cosiness.🕯🤍 Just to be extra cautious, in case we fall asleep in each other’s arms, I’d suggest using solar or battery-operated candles. They’re so easy to use, and we can even make use of a remote to dim the lights or make them brighter whenever we feel like it.

Personally, I’d scatter some fairy lights around too. You know … to give that magical, twinkling spark when the sun starts to quietly slip away. Every little detail plays its part in creating an instant like this. There’s no doubt about that. 🙂

Remember, it’s all about creating an ineffable experience and keeping the flame of our love forever burning. I truly believe it’s so easy to grow apart if we forget to carve out these intimate moments with our loved one. It’s so easy to get swept up in daily routines, material things, and the unbearable outside noise. But it’s moments like these that remind us who we truly are. What truly matters, and how little we actually need to feel at peace. 💛

Music in the Background

Well … you know what they say: when we’re in love, the voice of our partner is music to our ears. And I totally believe that. But after a couple of years, let’s be honest, we could use a background band too.😅 Like I said, every little detail carries weight when it comes to keeping each other as in love as we can possibly be.

I honestly love having a bit of soft instrumental music on during a romantic date. It makes me feel like the whole world is quietly singing for us. It’s soothing, it’s tender. And it creates the kind of atmosphere you never want to leave. 🎶

So, it would be ideal to bring a little Bluetooth speaker and play some soft music from our phones. But one rule … no scrolling, no notifications, no distractions. The phones can stay tucked away in a forgotten corner, on silent. 🤭 Just to reset ourselves a little.

Another beautiful way to have soothing sounds in the background is, of course, through the miracle of Mother Nature. We could set up a small water bird bath fountain near our romantic spot. And let ourselves be enchanted by the gentle trickle of water and the sweet songs of colourful little birds. I swear, I can almost hear it if I close my eyes. In summer, it feels like they’re always with me, no matter where I am. 🐦

Add a Dreamy Fragrance Layer

And let’s not forget one of my favourite little touches. A dreamy fragrance softly drifting through the evening air. It’s one of those invisible details that quietly transforms an atmosphere without you even realising it. I’ve always believed that a beautiful scent has the power to unlock feelings and memories we didn’t know were still there.

A gentle mix of vanilla, coconut, and a hint of jasmine would be my perfect choice. Something warm, creamy, and slightly exotic. Like the scent of a distant summer holiday clinging to our skin long after the sun has set. We could light a few scented candles, let them flicker as the night falls around us.

If I’m honest, I’d probably tuck a few lavender sprigs nearby too, just for good measure. It’s these barely noticeable touches that weave themselves into a night like threads in a tapestry … invisible to the eye but impossible to forget. Years from now, I know a whiff of that very scent will take me straight back to this moment, to us, and to the softness of a summer night made just for two.

Yummy Food and Drink

And what’s a romantic summer evening without some seriously yummy food and drink to savour together? It doesn’t have to be anything fussy or complicated. In fact, the simpler, the better. I would go for a little platter of fresh strawberries, chunks of juicy watermelon, and a handful of grapes. Maybe even a few squares of good dark chocolate to nibble on between sips of something chilled and sparkly.

I’ve always believed that food tastes different when you’re sitting under the stars with someone you adore. Every flavour feels a little brighter, a little sweeter, as if the night itself is seasoning it. I would also bring a light bottle of rosé and fruity cocktails. Or even homemade lemonade with slices of lemon and sprigs of mint (my boyfriend’s favourite).

It’s not just about the decor or the glow of fairy lights. It’s about creating a little world of our own, a hidden island of stillness. Where the only things that exist are the two of us, the warm summer air, and the soft flicker of candlelight. A simple, sensual experience built around touch, scent, sound, and the shared pleasure of food and conversation. It’s that kind of effortless magic. The kind we don’t need a passport for, but that leaves us feeling like we’ve travelled somewhere far away together, even if it’s just our little garden.
