I don’t know why, but as soon as the weather starts getting warmer and warmer, I want the interior of my home to reflect that warmth too. Not in a literal sense, but in a visual, aesthetic way. After all, true warmth comes from the emotions we bring into our space. 🤍 Lately, I’ve been thinking about ways to sprinkle colour into my bathroom decor. The idea of a cute, inexpensive and colourful bathroom makeover keeps popping into my head. And now I have so many ideas that I don’t even know where to start!
I even had a quick scroll through Pinterest for extra inspiration, and now I’m wondering 🤔 … why haven’t I thought of this sooner? In my mind, a colourful bathroom instantly transports me to a dreamy holiday in Greece, surrounded by bright, cheerful hues. And honestly, I want that feeling in my home all year round. So, let’s see how we can make it happen!
Give the old tiles a fresh update

This change is actually the most daring one, in my opinion. Once we give our walls a bit of life, the entire mood in the room will shift completely. I would suggest opting for pastel colours if we want to achieve the maximum level of warmth and comfort we are longing for. My childhood bathroom was actually decorated in a pastel pink, so this is, for me, the first choice, obviously. I guess childhood memories really do shape, to some extent, the life we have as adults. I remember feeling like a doll in my subtle pink bathroom and never wanting to leave after having the most delicious hot bath.
But evidently, we can go for any tone we can connect with. It could be a pastel green or a pastel blue. There’s actually a belief that everyone is associated with a colour that represents them.
Now, for the practical side, we have many possibilities. If we don’t want to invest in ceramic tiles, we can easily consider some DIY options that are quite straightforward. We could opt for self-adhesive waterproof tiles. They’re easy to install and also simple to replace if we want a new design in the future. Not to mention how affordable they are. Another inexpensive option would be to paint our existing tiles with special tile paint, which many people are choosing these days. It’s actually one of my favourites! 😊 Which one would you pick?
Colourful bathroom furniture

When I talk about cheerful bathroom furniture, I’m referring mostly to the vanity and sink components. It’s a fun way to experiment with colours and bring a vibrant pop to our space. One idea is to have the vanity in one colour and the sink in another. This approach will allow us to mix and match our favourite tones and create a personalised palette. These days, we can even add a glass sink to our bathroom decor, which is both stylish and extra chic.😋
But if we don’t want to change our existing vanity, we can simply paint it, and nobody will ever suspect a thing. We have endless hues to choose from, and the job will be finished in a couple of hours. Everything is on a budget, just the way we like it. 🤍
Another way to bring some life into our bathroom design is by adding a cute, colourful cabinet. We all need one for our personal items, and it’s incredibly useful for keeping the room tidy and uncluttered. Plus, it would add a playful touch, like a lollipop that brings a smile to everyone who sees it. 😋 After all … the only way through life is smiling. 🙂
Let the walls do the talking

We’ve talked about bathroom tiles, but what about the walls in our space? Not everyone opts for tiles, and sometimes parts of the walls are still… bare. A quick way to update the decor is by refreshing the paint. For our colourful theme, I’d recommend pastel shades. They perfectly complement the sense of relaxation and peace that we all seek during our “spa sessions.” I mean, I know I have them regularly because self-care is my love language. 💗
It is enough to paint just an accent wall … the effect will be out of this world. But we can’t leave our walls feeling … naked. We need a colourful painting to match the theme of our room. We can choose whatever we like most. I, for one, prefer abstract paintings for my bathroom design. But those with greenery or bath patterns are adorable as well. I suppose there is no right or wrong. Just intuition and personal taste. Right? 🎀
Vibrant textiles

We shouldn’t forget that, after all, what is most important is our comfort and well-being. When I think of this in the intimacy of my bathroom, I imagine getting out of a delicious bath and wrapping myself in the softest towel ever. I adore that sensation! I feel cuddled and taken care of. 🐣 Honestly, for me, it’s so important that I am able to give myself those kinds of emotions. It’s better than therapy, it’s just me being happy with myself. ☺️
So, some thick, dazzling towels are a must in our radiant bathroom design. I like to keep as much as I can in cabinets but also use them as decorations on my vanity or a floating shelf. They are super practical and incredibly lovely. A win-win!
Another addition that cannot be missing from my inexpensive and colourful bathroom decor is, of course, some fuzzy mats. That feeling of sinking my bare feet into their softness and simply enjoying the moment is ineffable. It’s like a ritual I perform every time I take a bath or a quick shower. All these combined sensations are what truly make the experience refreshing, soothing and otherworldly. One of the few places where I can let go of the day and immerse myself in pure tranquillity. 🩵
Decorate with bright accessories

If we don’t want to make long-term changes, such as changing our tiles, painting our furniture or our walls, we can simply opt for bright, multicoloured accessories. These types of items are extremely affordable and easy to find. Plus, we have the added benefit of switching them up if we want to make a change in our bathroom decor. These details add a sense of cosiness and make our room feel welcoming and serene. It’s all about creating a harmonious atmosphere where we can freely unwind. 💜
When I decorate my space, I honestly try not to overdo it … maybe just some extra scented candles. 🤭 We can add a colourful bin or lotion dispensers, anything that we use on a daily basis. For strictly decorative purposes, some beautiful artificial flowers in a ceramic vase would totally change the ambience, making it more refreshing. Two or three scented candles, a couple of bath bombs, and we are all set!
The charm of gold touches and natural materials

I have a few tips if we want to achieve the ultimate spa-like experience right here within the walls of our own home. Through my years of decorating and redecorating my bathroom, I’ve realised that the choice of materials can truly make all the difference in finishing off the design. Especially for our inexpensive and colourful bathroom theme. For example, I adore adding gold finishes to my hardware, as it totally blends with the pastel colours. ✨ Besides, it gives a super modern and luxurious flair without affecting our budget too much. We can even opt for some gold wall sconces to tie the whole style together really nicely.
Another suggestion is to incorporate natural materials, such as wood or bamboo, which further enhance the homey feel of our bathroom. We can invest in a wooden vanity or add a charming rattan basket to keep extra towels within reach. 😉 My favourite accessory is a wooden bathtub tray. I love placing bath bombs, fresh scented candles, and gold lotion dispensers on it. This final touch really transforms my bathroom decor, creating a noticeable before and after. It’s truly amazing! 🥹
Warm white lighting creates magic

You might be wondering, what does lighting have to do with it? Well, it plays a crucial role in balancing our visual aesthetic. Warm white lighting is often used to highlight pastel tones and softer hues. The gentle, warm glow accentuates the subtle beauty of pastels and makes them appear more radiant. It’s all about how light interacts with colours to bring out their full potential, allowing their magnificent sparkle to truly shine through. ✨
Nonetheless, warm white light is the only light I can tolerate in the early mornings or late at night. It gently stimulates my brain in the morning or during my evening routines. It is not harsh, so it literally promotes the awakening of positive energy within me. 🌟 I adore having a mirror with incorporated lights in my bathroom. However, they can be quite pricey, so I like to improvise as well. We can add warm LED light strips to the back of our mirrors for an even more intense effect. We can also place these strips underneath floating shelves or beneath our vanity. They will contribute to our soothing ambiance in a lovely way.
As I mentioned earlier, warm light sconces on both sides of the mirror are a must for me. Not only do they increase visibility, but they also help me transition into that zen state of mind, which isn’t always easy to achieve. At least not for me. 😅 I need to create my own sanctuary.
Happy colourful decorating! 🙂
