Who wouldn’t love to live a peaceful life amidst nature 🌿, breathing in the freshest air possible? To wake up smiling every day and feel gratitude radiating from every pore 🙏? Whilst I know that such a feeling is attainable no matter where we live … having a charming country home isn’t a dream come true for everyone. At least, for me, it isn’t… well, not yet. But they say seeing is believing … so I have the perfect idea. How about we start with our own country-style living room decor?
But what exactly is country-style home design? 🤔 In my view, it’s all about making our space look effortlessly beautiful while staying connected to our roots. We simply need a few striking decor pieces and a lot of love for neutral, earthy tones. The best part is that we can achieve all this without digging deep into our pockets. What do you think?

Wood is the star of the show

Country-style living rooms are all about bringing nature indoors. I honestly can’t think of a more natural design material than our precious wood. It’s timeless and classic, and it will never go out of style, no matter what type of interior decor we choose. We can concentrate on simple pieces, such as a sturdy wooden table. We can opt for a round table to add a touch of warmth and flow to our room. Or we can choose a square one to clearly accentuate its defined edges. It kind of goes hand in hand with our personality. 😊
The main idea is to keep the decor as minimal as possible. We don’t want to clutter our space too much, just thinking we don’t have enough elements to achieve a country-style living room. I believe it’s quite the opposite. Now that we have our table, we can hunt for a stylish wooden bench as one of our main seating options. It will look rustic and will undoubtedly be the foundation of our country theme. To make it look extra cosy and comfortable as well, we can drape a fluffy sheepskin rug over the bench.
I would suggest opting for neutral, earthy colours that could have easily come from the wilderness of the woods. I have to say … just writing this, I feel like I can already smell a landscape full of fresh grass and lavender. 🙃
Warm up the ambiance

If we yearn for a rustic, country-style haven, we could embrace the self-reliance of heating our space and sourcing our own food … reminiscent of bygone days when men were hunters and women embodied the warmth of the home. 😅 However, as we are far removed from those times, we can simply introduce the idyllic sights and sounds of a fireplace. This element is essential in our living room decor. Beyond being charming and stylish, it tricks our brains into imagining we are in the woods, surrounded by untouched nature and raw, unfiltered emotions.
I personally consider my fireplace to be my number one witness to my romantic moments. Or my best friend on days when I just need a bit of warmth and quiet. And the only music I can bear to listen to when my mind is racing without me being able to stop it. Those flames crackling are among the most soothing experiences I have ever had, right there within the walls of my home. 😊
Focus on the walls

In a country-style living environment, we wouldn’t have many furniture options. In my wild imagination, either our partner or our father would craft everything from scratch using the natural materials that surround us 😅. But that’s a story for another day (just me and my vivid dreams) 🤭. However, we can replicate this kind of design simply by focusing on our walls. We can install wooden floating shelves for our necessary storage, or opt for a simple wooden bookcase that serves as the focal point on one of our walls. The main tip is not to overdo it. We need to keep it minimal and clean.
Another idea that could imitate the cosy atmosphere of a wooden cabin is self-adhesive panelling. Nowadays, we can find the most realistic wood-like panels, and you wouldn’t know the difference. They’re extremely convenient, very easy to install and incredibly affordable. Plus, we can easily remove them if we wish to change our living room decor in the future. Commitment free, just the way we like it. 😉
Decorate with rustic and vintage accessories

This is the part of decorating I most enjoy. Every theme has its own specific little details that actually make all the difference. If we think about it, a country-style living room is a subtle mix between rustic charm and vintage accents. To make the most of our accessories, we can choose multipurpose furniture pieces. I am picturing a beautiful vintage chest trunk that can serve as a unique seating option, but also as a hidden storage space. Most importantly, it acts as a central piece in our country-style theme.
Moreover, we can pick bronze vases for a dried flower bouquet. These kinds of colours will give off the impression of old, well-loved items … something we could surely find in a wooden mountain cabin. On our shelves, we can place some vintage decorative books. Apart from being a classic accessory that will never go out of style, they can also be used as jewellery storage (or even as a secret snack stash 😅). Whatever we want, right?😊
Choose the right fabrics

When we say country-style design, we are immediately transported into a warm and inviting space. It’s the kind of decor that feels deeply personal and creates a sense of comfort and belonging for everyone who steps inside. With the right textures and fabrics, we can ensure our living room reflects this heartwarming and welcoming aesthetic. ✨
I would start with the fluffiest and softest sheepskin rug. We can drape it over our seating areas to make them look irresistibly snug and homely. Of course, I wouldn’t suggest going for the real thing … a faux fur sheepskin rug is just as striking! For our floor, I would personally choose the same type of rug, but in a larger size, to create a natural flow in our living room design. However, for the curtains, we might want to opt for a sheer, lightweight material. After all, the essence of a country-style living room is to appreciate the breathtaking natural view outside. 😊
Adorn with vintage artwork

A key characteristic of this type of decor is that it should feel deeply personal and meaningful. I believe the only artwork we would find in an original setting of this kind would be portraits of family members, whether present or long gone. Every piece brings its own nostalgic feeling. Each picture tells an emotional story that intensifies with every passing day, capturing moments of love, loss, or joy. 🙃
The beauty of such artwork lies not only in its visual appeal but in the emotions it evokes, creating an atmosphere that’s rich with history and sentiment. This connection to the past adds warmth to the room, making it feel more like a home. One that’s built on cherished memories and the people who matter most. So, we can choose to have photos of the people we love surrounding us, displayed in a vintage frame. Or we can even print vintage versions of our pictures on canvas and realistically combine modern times with the old, simpler ones. Which one would you choose? 🙂
Invest in comfortable seating options

Now, what would a country-style living room be without the most comfortable seating options? The whole idea is to have a safe place where we can enjoy the peace and quiet of our own lives, surrounded by the people we cherish. For that to happen, we most definitely need a sofa where we can cuddle and snuggle in. Here, we’re free to choose whatever we like most. The size and design are both up to individual taste and needs. But one thing I would say is that, for me, a leather sofa instantly evokes the idea of country living. Leather paired with wood are simply raw, natural materials that perfectly complement this kind of theme.🪵
In contrast, for a more feminine touch, I would pair the sofa with a cute and soft armchair … perfect for spending time reading a book or simply unwinding. Add some fluffy thick blankets and cushions, and we’ve created the most homely feel right there in our living room. 😊💖
The power of right lighting

Not only for our country-style living room, but for any kind of decor, natural lighting is a factor that cannot be overlooked. Our room should be filled with the warmth of sunrise or even a gloomy light, as it makes an enormous difference to our overall well-being.
So now that we’ve established that 🙃, we can move on to the best lighting for our style. I would recommend the simplicity of rattan pendant lights or rattan floor lamps. They are stylish, easy to maintain, and gentle on our pockets. Besides, it couldn’t get more rustic than this, right?
Another detail that would instill the idea of warmth and cosiness is having warm white lighting in different corners of our room. Perhaps beneath our floating shelves or some delicate wood wall sconces. This ambient glow will play the main role in our future most memorable date nights in. Promise! ✨💖
Stay true! 🙂
