Best affordable ways to style a blue bedroom decor

I recently went on my long-awaited summer holiday. 😍 I am all tanned and still have that holiday feeling lingering faintly. To be fair, I have always wanted to find a magical way to keep that relaxed state of mind with me all year long. 🙂 Believe it or not, I think it all starts with a beautiful blue bedroom decor. If we could instil a piece of our vacation into the design, it would transport us immediately back to the lovely beach. 🏖️

The reason I’m saying this is because I fell in love with the room decor at our hotel. It had this clean white aesthetic with sprinkles of blue all over it. 🤍 💙 This pop of colour instantly gave me the sensation of the beach and crystal-clear water.

When I left, I just knew I had found my magical way to feel so light and peaceful… well, until I came back. 😅 Because we are definitely going back there. I promise I will write a blog post about this exotic destination. Now let’s go through my cute ideas for this dreamy blue bedroom design. I hope it will help us to always live in calmness and peace of mind. The secret to a long and happy life. 😊

1. Bedding: The Easiest Win For A Blue Bedroom Decor

One of the simplest and most budget-friendly ways we can add a splash of blue to our bedrooms is through bedding. In fact, that was the first thing that caught my eye in my hotel room. Their bedding set was a neat, crisp white with blue cushions and duvet throw. That contrast added a serene dimension to the space. I have discovered that pairing blue cushions with neutral or white bedding creates such a fresh ambiance. This combination is ideal for unwinding in any moment of the day.

However, we can achieve contrast by layering different shades of blue as well. For example, we can pair a light sky blue sheet with a deeper cobalt blue blanket and cushions. Playing with different hues immerses us in a blissful atmosphere. This colour is known for its therapeutic and calming effects. I believe this is exactly why it puts me straight into that ineffable holiday mood. 🤍 💙

2. Add Blue Cushions and Throws

If we want an even more stylish look with minimal effort, then we should consider different textures as well. If you’re anything like me, you will love having as many cushions as possible on your bed. 🙃 I’m talking about different shapes, materials, sizes, and shades of blue. We could have velvet, linen, or cute geometric prints. Whatever texture and pattern resonates speak to our hearts. These additions are incredibly affordable, not to mention how versatile they are. They can be easily swapped out depending on the season or our moods (and we do have moods, don’t we?

😅).

Another fantastic option to switch things up without committing to major changes is adding cute, soft blankets. A well-placed throw at the end of our bed or casually draped over a chair adds a pop of blue. This simple addition brings warmth and vibrancy to our room. Who doesn’t love the embrace of a fluffy, cosy blanket? Plus, it’s such an effortless way to refresh our space.

3. Dress Your Walls with Blue Art

I remember in my hotel room there was this beautiful blue painting. It depicted just the sea and the sand, but it had such a powerful impact on me. I guess what I am trying to suggest is that whatever image brings us happiness, that is the one we should have on our walls. I, for one, am deeply moved by nature wall art. It gives me a sense of freedom and belonging to something unique. Since blue is a part of nature, I have so many options to choose from. 🙂

Nonetheless, we can opt for anything that inspires us. It could be blue abstract paintings or family photos stretched on a canvas. This way, we can make our blue bedroom decor feel even more personal and special. Whatever we decide to choose, it’s up to us. We just need to dress our walls and ensure they don’t seem empty and cold.

4. DIY: Blue Accent Wall In Our Blue Bedroom Decor

If we feel a bit adventurous and want a bigger change, we can try painting one wall blue. It’s such an inexpensive project that we can even do it ourselves. We’re free to choose any shade we want. We could go for light blue to evoke tranquillity and serenity, or opt for a darker tone to suggest vibrant energy or even a touch of drama.

Personally, I would choose a light blue and paint the wall behind our bed. I think it would embrace me from the moment I opened the door to our bedroom. Instant bliss and brightness. 😌 🩵

On the other hand, my best friend painted one of her walls in a deep blue. 💙 I must admit, it gives off a unique sense of sophistication and elegance. It seems to envelop you in an aura of mystery and the unknown. Ultimately, it’s a great way for us to express ourselves and discover what truly makes us happy. 🥰

5. Blue Rugs for Texture and Colour

The one thing that was missing from my wonderful hotel room was a soft rug. But I suppose that’s the point of a hotel—to avoid getting too attached. I’ve always said that a bedroom without the cosy touch of a rug feels impersonal. I love sinking my feet into a fluffy texture when I come home; it’s one of the best feelings, don’t you think?

So yes, a blue rug in our blue bedroom decor can work wonders. It can completely transform the space. Firstly, because rugs are extremely stylish items. Secondly, because the colour we choose can significantly influence the mood of the room. Lighter tones of blue can make our bedroom feel more spacious and warm. But deeper blues can create a snug and intimate ambiance.

Sometimes, we might even want to experiment with patterns. Something that incorporates various shades of blue can make our rug a true centrepiece. It’s an excellent way to add colour without the permanence of painted walls or new furniture. It’s the perfect reminder that even small pieces can have a big impact. 🙂

6. Introduce Blue Curtains or Blinds

Blue curtains or blinds are a fantastic way to introduce colour without being overpowering. If we want a soft and airy vibe, sheer blue curtains can filter natural light beautifully. It’s so easy to refresh our decor with this practical switch. Imagine those light curtains swaying in the gentle summer breeze. A scene reminiscent of a perfect holiday snapshot. 📷

On the other hand, we can opt for dark blue, heavier fabrics, which provide excellent light-blocking. Ideal for those cosy Sunday mornings when we want a bit of extra sleep. The good news is that there are so many options available, no matter the material we choose. Plus, it’s the perfect balance between chicness and affordability. ⚖️

7. Decorate with Blue Lamp Shades or Blue Bedside Tables

I adore having symmetry in my bedroom design. It gives me a sense of safety and interior equilibrium. The best method to achieve this is by adding the exact same items on both sides of our bed. I like to have identical bedside tables and matching lampshades. In our hotel room, we had these immaculate white bedside tables. On top of them were these beautiful light blue lamps. This pop of colour had the power to warm the entire decor. It created a welcoming and almost homey feeling. I simply loved it.

Hence, for our blue bedroom decor, I would definitely recommend using this approach. We can play with the colours however we like. It could be a dark blue table paired with an imposing sky blue lamp, or we could choose the pattern we had in our holiday bedroom. I know it’s not such a simple decision, but we need to figure out which visual colour scheme is our partner in crime. From there, everything else in our decor will make sense and feel uniquely ours. 🤍 💙

8.  Accessorise with Blue Decorative Pieces

By now, we all know how important the little touches are when decorating our bedroom. They are the main thing that differentiates a hotel room from our personal space. I usually pay a lot of attention to these accessories. I don’t like to overdo it, either. Just a few bits and pieces can do a remarkable job.

So why not incorporate blue through adorable decorative pieces? It could be a cute blue vase for our fresh flowers, or blue picture frames with the ones we love. We can even explore options such as blue candles or decorative blue books to display on our bedside tables or shelves. Such subtle changes might seem minor. But believe me when I say: it’s all in the little things 😉 —just like in life. 🙂
